The Cafe Around the Corner: Amelie's
Let me tell you about my latest obsession. Her name is Amelie’s. She’s one part café, one part bakery – and all French, and I fell in love with her the very first time I visited her. I stepped inside and was greeted by a quirky environment filled with odds and ends, exuberant chandeliers, plates lining walls masquerading as French paintings, throwback sofas giving off their vintage airs. But even better than their décor, if you could even imagine, is their delectable array of food and drinks.
From herbal teas to coffee to French soda, it’s lit. My favorite is their café marcotter and I order it religiously. It’s the perfect blend of sweet and tart, topped with caramel, with a hint of sea salt. Frothy cup of goodness.
I have never frequented a coffee spot and been open to exploring other menu options, but Amelie’s has been refreshingly different. I started with their flakey and perfectly buttery croissants and then ventured off to their breakfast sandwich, which consisted of your choice in meat, cheese, greens, and an egg. It was c’est magnifique.
Eventually, I segued into their lunch territory and now my favorite is their chicken salad sandwich on a croissant with a side of spinach, carrots, asparagus, and leeks soup. My favorite thing to do is walk from my office to Amelie’s during lunchtime and enjoying my 45 minutes to myself as I sip my coffee (somedays tea) and indulge in my favorite food combination.
