My Minimal Everyday Skincare Routine

My Minimal Everyday Skincare Routine

If I could use one word to describe my approach to skincare, it would be: minimal. I don't like for anything in my life to feel too fussy, and although I dedicate time and care to my skin, it's something that I've always strived to do as simply as possible. My skin is still not flawless by any means, but I live by a handful of products to keep the acne and pimples away. And it's been working! (Except, of course, during my period when I get a couple of pimples on my jawline since my acne has largely been hormonal when I've experienced it at its worst.)

I went from relying on ten products at a time to products that were so medicated they required a prescription from dermatologists, to now settling firmly in products that are closer to natural. I prefer it that way and I think my skin does too. Below are the products that I swear by in my minimal everyday skincare routine.

Step 1: Giovanni D:tox System Purifying Facial Cleanser

This cleanser is the holy grail of cleansers for me and has been for the past year and a half. Every now and then, I try to implement different cleansers so my face doesn't get too used to this, but I love this product. It contains volcanic ash and activated charcoal that do wonders with absorbing toxins and removing impurities in the skin. I use it along with my Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush in my showers in the mornings.

Step 2: Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Toner

I follow up cleansing by using this toner. This is the most recent addition to my routine and it's admittedly something I do more at night than during the day. Sometimes I feel too lazy to do my cleansing routine, so I just skip the first step and cleanse with this toner to get rid of any dirt and oils from my skin before I hit the sheets. It's 99.4% natural with its featured ingredient, tomatoes, acting as a naturally acidic purifier. I love it because my skin feels cleaned without feeling stripped and it also smells incredible.

Step 3: Sweet Almond Oil

You might not notice it, but almond oil is what's pictured above in that clear ramekin. I stopped using store-bought moisturizers a while ago and started relying on essential oils as a way to moisturize my skin. I know some people use coconut oil but I've found my sweet spot in sweet almond oil. My favorite brand is from NOW Solutions and I use a dime sized amount post-cleanse on my face, as well as on my body, to promote healthy-looking skin.

Step 4: Alaffia Everyday Coconut Eye Cream (Optional)

I'm just now getting into eye creams, but know the importance of including one in a skincare routine due to the sensitive nature of the area around your eyes. I have naturally puffy eyes so I doubt there's an eye cream on the market that could minimize that because I get it from my father. So instead, I use eye cream more so to nurture and nourish that area since it requires a bit more TLC than other areas of the face. My eyes feel so relieved after every application so it's definitely a staple I stand by.

Step 5: Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen SPF 45

Yes, an SPF of 45 might seem a little high, but I assure you that it's recommended that we all own a bottle of sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher. Yes, even us with darker skin, too. Although being blessed with an abundance of melanin means some protection from the sun, we only have SPF 15, which means we need sunscreen to meet the minimum of 30. I use sunscreen year-round to protect against skin cancer. This one by Alba Botanica is my favorite because it doesn't leave behind a white cast and adds another layer of glow which I love.
